How a 700 sqft studio at Sanctuary@Geylang transformed into a calm blue-and-white retreat — kitchen island removed, study area added, balcony refreshed.

Renovation for Sanctuary@Geylang

A seven-week makeover of a 700 sqft studio apartment with an estimated cost of $40,000 — proof that a thoughtful layout can stretch a small footprint into a complete home.

  • Type: studio apartment
  • Size: 700 sqft
  • Time taken: 7 weeks
  • Estimated cost: $40,000

Completed work

The original plan by the owners was to remove the existing island cabinet because it was in the way of their ideal home layout. They also planned to overlay the existing floor tiles, since the design and workmanship of the originals weren’t to their expectations.

After consultation and discussion, because there were several other defects in the home, the owners decided to do a more thorough renovation. The main colour theme of the new home was set to blue and white.

Living area: the new living area was given more storage and a brighter feel.

Bedroom: the old wall partition was removed and a new divider was constructed. Bathroom doors were changed to blend with the décor.

Bathroom: wall and floor tiles were replaced with new ones to suit the owners’ taste.

Kitchen: a new kitchen area replaced the old layout.

Study area: an additional study area was created with sufficient work space and storage.

Balcony: who says that when you have space constraints you can’t have everything? The owners just proved otherwise. They now have a decent and spacious bedroom, a good-size living area, a proper kitchen, a work area for two desks, ample storage, and an inviting and cheerful balcony.

Outcome

The owners were happy with the outcome of the renovation works. Here is the testimonial from a happy client extracted from Facebook reviews.
